Cabinet Choices

Looking for the perfect style and quality cabinet can be an overwhelming prospect.  There are so many brands in the market place that offer many options in wood species, stain and style, plus paints and glazes, that the big question of cost sometimes seems to be the only way to choose.

I have built cabinets for many years, and so I like to look not only at the exterior joinery, shapes and colors, but also at the construction and joint systems that are the fabric of this sizable investment in your home.  The word that is always in my mind is 'value'.  You don't always get what you pay for!

Value is the blend of quality and price, and is therefore a way to distinguish the cabinets that will give satisfaction in the long run.  I have carefully selected a range of cabinet makers that will fit with most budgets, all of which bring value to the table.  Whether you need fully custom designed cabinets with a very unique style, or are looking for a well constructed door and cabinet that will fit within a standard layout, I can help you.  Those two scenarios are the extremes and there are many shades in between. I can quote you for the wood choice, style and quality level that best suits your taste and your budget.

Here is a link to the Woodland Cabinetry website.  You will find a full description of their door style choices and a list of the wood species and finishes they come in.  They have been building cabinets for over 15 years, and have a wealth of experience to draw from.  At their factory in South Dakota they have state of the art technology along side respected craftsmen, building frame style cabinets in plywood, or with an environmentally friendly furniture board made with 100% recycled ground wood.  Both are made with glues that have a minimum of added formaldehyde, and finished with a durable vinyl coating that is easy to clean.

All doors and face frames are solid wood construction, with an option to insert a flat plywood center panel.  The drawer boxes are maple with a dovetail joint construction, mounted on full extension Blum Tandem glides with a soft close feature.  The final stain finish is a durable conversion varnish that will hold up to the toughest use, or a pigmented opaque stain in either white or 3 color choices with a variety of glaze finishes.

This kitchen uses the dark glaze application on white  opaque stain to contrast the dark stained alder wood.  Woodland Cabinetry offers the turned legs and corbels as standard.

Other Cabinet Choices

If your needs are beyond the scope of Woodland Cabinetry, or if your budget and skill level are leading you to building your own cabinets, I have other solutions to help you reach your dream.

Let’s say you are looking for an exotic hardwood such as Afromosia, to match some furniture you already own.  I work with a talented, local cabinet maker who will source this fine wood and get samples for you to view.  We will talk about the appropriate style to suit your home, and, if necessary, I can design the doors and details from scratch, so that our cabinet maker can build to your particular needs.  A sample door will be constructed for approval and detailed plans completed.

On the other hand, you may feel that your creative talents are calling you to build your own cabinets.  This is not as daunting as it may sound, if you have a moderate skill level, and are able to cut panel material clean and square.  I can help you with cutlisting, as well as material and hardware choices.  I have been working with a local door and drawer box making company and can show you my own kitchen that I recently built in this way.  The design will specifically reflect this method of cabinet construction and the interior options etc can be carefully tailored to your needs. By the time you are done, you will have created a beautiful and immensely satisfying addition to your home.

If either of these options seems to fit your needs, please contact me for further details.
