Finding our quiet place within where we can actually experience our dreams is not easy in this fast paced life we live. Rushing from one important event to the next, with responsibilities to our families and our own businesses is more than enough to fill our days. Setting aside the time for reflection and creativity is not always possible.
I can remember still my excitement in my high school art classes, when I would be eager to make some pottery item or wooden shelf, building with diligence and being so proud of my ‘trophies’. The window sills at home were lined with them, and my mother would clean the dust off every single one of them. Now that’s true love!
At college there were just not enough hours in the day for me to fulfill my creative ideas. I was in heaven. Mixing colors and textures brought a thrill that easily matches the excitement of looking out from the top of ‘Half Dome’. Crafting a vision into life, from a beautiful piece of wood or red hot molten glass, brought me to appreciate the subtleties of line that has all the adrenaline of setting the sheets of my sailboat to capture that exquisite sense of balance and power. I was young and had so much to learn. I could do ANYTHING.
27 years after graduating, I am still in awe of that creative spirit that flows through us all. Time has brought me many experiences to savor, and the enjoyment of putting pencil to paper has not waned. Each time a vision is realized, I feel a sense of gratitude and wonder, to be a part of the process. What could be more satisfying?
